The Heated Bat Box originated from the wish to have a successful way to mitigate/compensate for the loss of common pipistrelle maternity roosts. When buildings inhabited by bats are being demolished or insulated, mitigation is necessary.
Placing a Heated Bat Box increases the success rate of this mitigation for common pipistrelle breeding colonies but also for other bat species.
Research in the UK demonstrates that because the bat house is heated the probability of it being colonised by common pipistrelle and other bats is substantially increased.

The Heated Bat Box can both attached to walls or placed on poles. Outside the European mainland (mainly U.K. and U.S.) the Heated Bat Box already has been used for quite a while as a mitigation method. Now it is also available on the European mainland, supplied by Apodemus.
Combined with a Batlure, it is possible to lure the bats to their new accommodation. This substantially increases mitigation success.
The Heated Bat box is connected to mains power, which guarantees a constant temperature inside the box.
