Time expansion bat detectors such as the Petterson D240x need an external recording device to record bat sounds. The Tascam DR-05 is very suitable for this and is therefore an essential part of your equipment.
The Tascam DR-05 is connected to the D240x by means of a 3.5 mm audio jack cable. The bat sounds are saved to a micro SD card in .WAV format. The recorded sounds can be replayedand analysed on the computer, for example with the BatSound analysis software.
The Tascam DR-05 was notoriginally designed for bat research but for music recordings, as was the popular Edirol that was a widely-used device for bat research. Now that it has been taken out of production, the Tascam DR-05 is an alternative with a good price/quality ratio.
